Sony has offered all good music lovers playback its new flagship model of the MDR-ZX750BN line of wireless headphones. In the annotation to this model, it was stated that it would be appreciated by both a connoisseur of classical and a fan of modern styles and directions of music.

At the same time, the recommended producer price of $ 150 was indicated in the price list. We can only check how good this model is, identify its disadvantages, and of course, emphasize its advantages against other competitors.

Design, comfort, and Appearance

Sony MDR-ZX750BN Wireless headphones

Without a doubt, as soon as you pick up these headphones, you realize that they belong to the premium segment of the headphone market. Sony designers have worked hard. It happens that you hold headphones in your hands, and you get the feeling that the headband is made in one style, the cups in another, and the cord belongs to a completely third direction in design. Model MDR-ZX750BN fits perfectly into the classic image of monitor headphones.

The first thing the user feels is a high level of comfort. The cups fit perfectly to the ears, while the headband quite accurately sits in its place and does not exert excessive pressure. All parts that come into contact with the head are made of leather with a fairly good finish.

A special pillow with silicone filling is sewn into the headband, which reduces the degree of pressure on the head. The headband below is stitched with perforated leather. Headband length adjustment is made by clicking. The headband ear cup and headband are made of plastic. This is a significant minus of the model. The fastening in the form of a pin lock is not reliable enough. If you drop the headphones, then there is a great risk that either the temples or the mounting lock itself will break.

The Sony MDR-ZX750BN cups are excellently designed both in terms of ergonomics and in terms of sound insulation. The diameter of the cups covers even large ears and does not cause any discomfort.

The earpads are made of thin, perforated leather with a very high-quality filler.

It should be noted that the back of the cups is “blind,” without additional holes and decompression chambers. This causes overheating of the ears during prolonged listening; you cannot stand it longer than two or three hours.

This model can work both in wireless signal reception mode and in the mode of signal supply via cable (supplied). This provides more advanced features.

If you listen to tracks in wireless mode, then the battery will last at least 8 hours of continuous listening (although the instructions include a figure of 13 hours, but it all depends on the outgoing signal’s power level).

Sony MDR-ZX750BN is ideal for working with any external device. A cable connection allows you to connect them to any player. Still, the wireless technology uses the Bluetooth 3.0 protocol and requires additional drivers for some devices that do not support this protocol.

For the full operation and sound of these headphones, the player must have a capacity of at least 100 mW.

Sound Quality, Features, and some Nuances

The sound source is electrostatic sound emitters with a very high response rate of 0.0001 s. The diameter of the emitter is 40 mm. This allows him to reproduce frequencies from 8 – 22000 Hz for cable connection and 20 – 20,000 Hz in wireless mode.

And in the first and second cases, only true connoisseurs or professionals with good hearing can understand individual frequencies’ sound defects. Nevertheless, one fact should be noted – the sound row has several “failures.”

The first failure is the sound of medium tonality, even with a track not overloaded with sounds. The sounds are somewhat unnatural and muffled. This drawback is easily eliminated by additional work with the equalizer, it is enough to increase the proportion of mid-range sound, and their sound quality becomes much better.

The Bass sounds perfect. They are so deep, natural, and voluminous that you are amazed at the company’s engineers who could compile such a sound system. However, this is the second minus – when listening to musical fragments in which several instruments of different tones are simultaneously played, the lower parts literally begin to dominate and “crush” the remaining sounds (and EQ is required again).

The third minus is the inability to “squeeze” the full volume of the signal. As soon as the volume exceeds 80% of the maximum possible, the signal quality becomes simply terrifying (this is especially felt in the wireless mode). “Tops” fall on a screech, and the bottoms begin to “gurgle.” However, it is enough to lower the volume level, as the sound again becomes almost perfect.

The sound of the Sony MDR-ZX750BN can be considered a reference. Even if you’re quite picky, then applying an external equalizer’s settings, you can easily build the sound in that key that is acceptable to your musical taste.

Separately, I want to note the system for suppressing external sounds. The system actively suppresses noise, while up to 98% of all external sounds are suppressed.

Even if you do not turn on the noise reduction system, the level of external noise will be minimal and will not interfere with listening to tracks.

Conclusion: Should you buy Sony MDR-ZX750BN Wireless headphones?

Sony MDR-ZX750BN is a great option for those who want to get headphones with good sound quality. In general, the model is consistent with the declared price and can even compete with headphones, which are much more expensive.
